A. D. Andrews Nursery is a field grown tree farm, all material is produced balled and burlapped and dug with mechanical spades. The nursery began in 1982 in Chiefland , Florida by A. D. Andrews. After collecting oaks out of native stands he decided to start his own field growing tree farm. What started out as 40 acres of live oaks planted out from acorns, A. D. Andrews Nursery has grown to approximately 1,500 acres currently in production, providing trees throughout the south and southeast. We specialize in hardened-off field-grown trees, which research has proven to require less watering and establish faster than container grown material. Quality is our commitment to you. You will find that our quality balled and burlapped trees will cost you less in the long run.
We are located in beautiful North Florida, 45 minutes west of Gainesville .
Northern Florida is known for its rich, superior soil, most having been former agricultural lands. We use Best Management Practices (BMP's) in our irrigation programs along with top of the line growing and conservation practices. We have constant pruning and maintenance programs for our plants year round and annual root pruning program. We would say our plant material is second to none.
Our specialty is the Live Oak (“The South's Finest Shade Tree”), however, we also grow Bald and Pond Cypress, many varieties of Holly, Magnolia cultivars, (Claudia Wannamaker, D. D. Blanchard, Little Gem, Amy and Mary), Elms, Eastern or Southern Red Cedar, many varieties of southern Oaks, Crape Myrtles, to name a few. We grow large specimen trees and shrubs and can provide a complete list of all varieties of trees and shrubs on request.
Also available is the "Full Headed Character Oak" sometimes referred to as an Andrews Oak, which is preferred by most outside of Florida . But for our Florida customers, we have the Florida #1s for those jobs in which it is preferred or required. Although we do not agree with the Florida Grades and Standards concerning Live Oaks and will happily debate anyone on this issue, we do produce thousands and thousands of Florida #1 Live Oaks for the market every year.
